Final Project

Hello all,

When beginning this project I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  I picked my big idea of Freedom and began my thought process.  I figured the topic of freedom would be easy to capture. When I started I wanted to keep with the thought of the United States being a free country and I would use that for motivation to do this project.

Once I began this project I began to run into some problems. I started taking pictures and I could not get what I wanted.  I focused mainly on the USA flag as a sign of freedom. But after a lot of thought I changed my direction on where I wanted to go. I did focus one of my pictures on the flag because it signals freedom to me but I wanted to change my take on the next two.  I decided to go with a picture of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and also a picture of the oval here at OSU.  Along with the pictures themselves I put quotes with them.  I chose the quote "We must be willing to pay a price for freedom" by H.L. Mencken for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  I did this because there are so many soldiers that have given their life and have not been found and I am very grateful for everything that they have sacrificed.  For the oval I chose the quote "only the educated are free" by Epictetus.  This means a lot to me because we all enjoy the freedom to choose what we do with our lives.  This includes picking where we go to school.  The oval is a major symbol for Ohio state so I thought a picture of it was appropriate.

After I finished my project I was very pleased with the final pictures.  Although they are simple, I put a lot of time and thought in to it.  These pictures represent what freedom means to me and I also feel others will feel the same.  Freedom is not something we are guaranteed and I am very happy to live in a country that I am offered it every day.  I hope everyone can relate to these pictures and get a sense of pride for the freedom we are given.

Thank you all,

Freedom

Hello all,

For this project I am going with the Freedom as my big idea.  With Veterans day just passing and how freedom is given to us because of them I feel this is a great starting point.  Freedom is a huge thing for me because I am so thankful for the sacrifices that people have given up so that we can enjoy this liberty.  The freedom to do as we want, say, and feel are great ways to live that not everyone are able to do.  Its the freedom that allows us to be in a major university of our choosing, and majoring in what will make us happy in life.

For this project I want to capture freedom in at least 3 images.  Since freedom in this country can be so broad I want to find 3 things that will mean a lot to everyone, but most especially myself.  This can be visual freedom of symbols but also I want to try to capture freedom in  a way that is difficult to see as in maybe just a thought.

With freedom I feel the opportunities are endless because it is so relevant to me and everyone that lives in this country.  This project should be interesting to do because I feel a connection to the topic so it should be a fun project to do.

Thank you,
Tyler Thines

MP 5

Hello all,

My words for this project were open and gravity.  I decided to use both instead of just choosing one considering we obviously use gravity every day and we also open things every day.  When thinking about what objects I use everyday to incorporate with this assignment I had a hard time deciding what to do, then i just realized I need to keep it simple.  I decided to use a water bottle, first being closed upside down, then opening it and the water pouring out.  This involves the opening of the bottle, and gravity working to draw the water out of the bottle and to the ground.  It represents much more then just water because any thing you drop will fall to the ground, but water is typically a pretty minor thing that if it spills it won't do much damage. So it can represent every day minor mishaps or big disasters if something valuable or fragile is dropped and ruined.

Hello all,

For this project I choose the super power of flight.  While thinking about what power I would want to have I thought about flying, x-ray vision, super strength, just about everything you imagine a super hero having.  But what made me finally decide on the ability to fly is that growing up I feel every kid has acted like they are flying either buy running around or actually jumping off something and getting hurt.  This eventually made by decision very easy.

The project itself I feel turned out pretty well.  I like how I used the blurr effect to make it seem like I was flying very fast over the oval like I was on a mission to get some where.  I do wish I could  make it seem a little more realistic because I look a lot bigger then everything around me but I guess we can just act like I am way higher then everything and the camera is right above me.  Overall I am happy with the way it turned out and enjoyed doing this project.

Thank you,
Tyler

Hello all,

This project was an interesting one because at first I was completely lost on what to do.  But once I understood the project I just took off with it.  I choose to use the Jesse Owens North gym as the building I wanted to be mine.  I added on to this building with the Chicago Blackhawks logo.  It is on the east side of the building which is where the main entrance is.  I choose this because all my friends know I am an adamant hawks fan so I thought it was very fitting.

In photo shop I needed to use cropping tools to cut the logo out.  I used transforming tools along with shading  to make it look like the logo actually was placed on the building.  I think this was a good exercise to show how you everyone views different buildings as their own or how they relate to certain buildings on campus.

Hello all,

I think this picture shows my identity because it illustrates how all the little things lead into one big picture. The cell phone, lap top, hockey, ohio state, everything relates to how I live, and I live in my house.  I keep everything here at night and take some things out during the day, but everything always ends up back here.  I use most of these things daily, and if its not daily its probably every other day.  It does not show my identity because it doesn't show how my friends fit into my life and they are a huge part of it.  All my friends either par take in these activities with me or do it on their own so the only thing I would like to add is to illustrate how my friends are a huge part in my life too.

10 Items

Hello all,

First off these are in no particular order of importance to me.

Titleist Hat - I chose this because I have grown to love the game of golf over the past few years.  It has always been known has hockeys off season sport but I did not always play and I am not the best golfer either but it is a great way for me to relax and get everything off my mind. I go with some of my best friends and just enjoy being outside and occasionally making a great shot.
-Relaxing activity

Lap Top - I chose this because my lap top is a vital part of my life in college.  I carry it with me every day to do school work, read the news, and facebook to keep up with my friends.  In todays world if you are not connected you can miss out on a lot of important things around the world.
-Resource to everything

Ipod- I chose my ipod because I listen to it everyday, unless I forget to charge it.  I listen to it walking around, working out, and studying.  I have music on my ipod for every mood I'm in so it is also a release to me because when I have it in I do not have to worry about listening to anything around me.
-Everyday necessity

Blackhawks Hat - I chose this because the Blackhawks are my favorite team and I love hockey.  Every time they are playing I normally talk to my Dad like every half hour whether I am watching them or not because either I am or he is and we just talk about what is going on in the game. It always gives us something to talk about
-Family team

Fridge- I chose this because with out my fridge I would not have anywhere to keep my food so it is obviously important to me.  I need to eat right to stay healthy and in shape.
-Vital object

Cell Phone -  I chose my cell phone because it is always on me when I am not either playing hockey, playing golf, or working out.  And also some other things that you obviously can not keep your phone on you.  But it keeps my schedule, keeps me in contact with friends and family, and also gives me something to do at all times if I get bored.
-Always on me

Hockey Bag- I chose this because hockey is my ultimate release.  I took a few years off of competitive hockey and I decided I could not do it anymore. I have been back playing for a week and my spirits are already up.  When I am playing hockey I do not have to worry about school work, any problems I am having, or stress I may have. Also playing hockey has given me some of the best friendships ever. Hockey is a unique sport and when you join a new team for the first time everyone excepts you like you are part of the family.  The friendships I have made playing hockey is something I will never forget and look forward to always having them.
-Ultimate release

Ohio State Logo - I chose this because I love going to Ohio State. I transferred here my sophomore year and I think it is the best decision I could have made. I love the school, the city, and everything about it. Everyones passion about the University is unreal and could not picture myself going to college anywhere but here.
-Best Decision

American Flag - I chose this because I think it stands for the great country we live in and how lucky we actually are.  It also stands for all the people that have served in the military and the ones who gave their lives so we can have the freedoms we have today.  Sometimes my friends and I just play patriotic music and have a great time knowing that we are free and celebrate living in this great country.
-Symbol of Freedom

My House-  I chose my house because I have had a blast living there this year. I have met tons of people and have had tons of fun.  Our house is known to all of our friends as the house to go to on the weekend.  We have had a lot of parties already this year but its not just about the parties.  I live with four of my team mates so it just allows me to always be with people I like being with.
-Favorite Spot

Project1

Hello all,

This project was about my journey to class everyday. At first i was kind of confused on how I would do this but once I got started it was really easy and exciting.  When you do not think about all the little things that happen every day you sure can miss a lot.

My picture is of a map from google maps and pictures I took on my way to class.  It starts off at my home as I walk to the union and get on the bus and take it over to the business building and walk from there to the stadium.   This is denoted in my work by different color lines in which i used the paint brush in photo shop.  I also used different layers for each picture so I could adjust it to my liking.  I had to resize each picture using the cropping tool and make sure they were still proportioned right.

All in all I would say this project is a good introduction to use photo shop for the rest of class and I'm excited to learn more.

Journey to Class

Hello all,

As I begin my walk to class each day it all starts out the same way, before I leave the house I make sure i put my head phones in for my ipod.  I walk out the door and turn down 13th street and head to campus.  If I am tired I will walk down 13th, cross High st. and go through the union to get on the bus. I take the bus to the Fisher College of Business and then walk to class from there.  They're might be a closer spot to get off of but I have not taken the time to figure it out.

On my way here I always keep to myself unless I run into some that I know, then i will take my head phones out and talk to them.  This early in the morning I just prefer to stick to myself.  But since I have my head phones on I miss out on a lot of the surrounding sounds but am typically pretty vigilante on looking around.  I notice people walking, people on the bus, and how they react to other things that happen.  If I'm going to have a busy day my people watching declines and I plan out my day so I am more oblivious to what is going on around me.  But I am always aware enough to know what is going on directly around me to make sure I know if there would be any danger or anything.

I look forward to working on this project.

Thank you,
Tyler Thines

Wexner Center

The piece of art I choose while browsing all the pieces is The Farm by Alexis Rockman. She did this piece of art in 2001 and the media is oil and acrylic on wood.

While walking through the exhibit this one really caught my eye. I think the connotations of this piece are based on the realities of the farm life.  These animals are viatal pieces to farmers lives and help them have a living off of this.  The denotations I believe are that all of these animals are essential to to farm life, and every day life.  All of these animals are important to life as a human to survive.  They are all interrelated based on the food chain.

I think the big picture is how important it is for us as humans to sustain all kinds of life to ensure the better of the human race.

Introduction

Hi my Tyler Thines. I am a junior here at The Ohio State University studying Business Operations in the Fischer College of business. This is my second year here and love the fact i decided to transfer here. I have loved the experience and am looking forward to getting my degree from this great university.

I grew up in Findlay, Ohio and graduated from Findlay High School in 2009.  I was a four year varsity letter men in hockey.  I was captain my senior year and enjoyed being in the leadership role.  I have decided to play club hockey here this fall and winter because I miss the competitive aspect in my life.  I am really excited about it because I know most of the team and it should be a great time.

I am looking forward to this class and meeting my peers who are in it.

Thank you, and see everyone in class Monday morning!
